Amitzur Shapira

Bio

Amitzur Shapira was born July 9, 1932 in Tel Aviv, Israel. He was married and the father of four children. Amitzur was regarded as Israel's top track and field coach at the National Center for Physical Education and Sport, the Wingate Sports Institute, in Netanya. He discovered the running talent of Esther Shahamorov when she was 14 years old and trained her for the Olympics. On September 4, 1972, Esther qualified for the 100 meter hurdles semifinals and set a new Israeli record. That evening, they went to see the play "Fiddler on the Roof" in Munich. After the play ended, the group posed for photographs and returned to the Olympic Village. Link
